Official Release
SPECIAL THANKS TO MR. RICK RUHL FOR HIS SERVICE
TO SETON CATHOLIC SCHOOLS
Mr. Rick J. Ruhl, President of Seton Catholic Schools, has committed his career to education
with a true passion for and dedication to Catholic education. Rick holds a Master’s degree in
School Administration & Supervision from Concordia University (River Forest, IL) and a
Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education, Social Studies from Indiana University
(Bloomington, IN). A native of Richmond, his first teaching job was at Richmond High School,
his alma mater. After getting married to Karen in 1987, the couple moved to Chicago and Rick
was hired to teach Social Studies at St. Joseph High School. SJHS was a Catholic high school
located in the heart of the old stockyards on the south side of Chicago. It was there that Mr.
Ruhl truly felt called to be a Catholic school educator.
With a desire to live closer to family, Rick served as Principal of Scecina Memorial High School
in Indianapolis beginning in 2000. Five years later, he became Principal of Seton Catholic High
School in Richmond – a role he filled for 15 years. Now completing his second year as
President of Seton Schools, Rick has worked beside his colleagues under the direction of
recently departed Fr. Kevin Morris and now Fr. Dustin Boehm to advance the mission and vision
of Seton Catholic Schools.
Archbishop Charles C. Thompson, the Office of Catholic Schools, and the Seton Catholic
Community, and Fr. Dustin Boehm are extremely grateful to Rick Ruhl for his commitment to
Catholic education for the past 32 years, including school leadership roles in Chicago, Illinois;
Kenosha, Wisconsin; and both Indianapolis and Richmond, Indiana.
As the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, and the Seton School
Commission prepare for the new fiscal year and the 2019-2020 program year, the decision has
been made to again restructure the leadership model, eliminating the position of President. On
July 3, 2019, Rev. Sengole Gnanaraj will begin as pastor, at which time the previous school
leadership model will be implemented.
We invite all to join us for a celebration of Rick Ruhl’s service to Catholic education, specifically
to Seton Catholic Schools and the parish community, on Sunday, June 9, 2019 from 11:00 AM
to 12:30 PM in the Atrium of Charles Mosey gym on the campus of Seton Catholic High School.
